# late stage humanism

> late stage humanism is a tiny software studio in los angeles, building tools for the messy, personal parts of life that don't scale. home of losien.to. We build our own products first, and can be talked into building other people's ideas when we like them.

The name is our answer to late stage capitalism: almost everything about being a person that could be made faster, bigger, or more profitable has been. What's left has no obvious purpose. We think it's the part worth protecting, and we call it late stage humanism.

Human-scale means small on purpose, and built for people rather than for metrics: no feeds tuned for engagement, no growth hacks. The studio itself is early stage: a handful of humans, mostly busy building our own things for now.

## What we make

- [losien.to](https://losien.to): a place to leave a thought where you're standing. No feed, no followers, no algorithm. What you find depends on where you are and when. Our first product.

## What we believe

- Slow on purpose: Nobody is getting faster at processing emotions. We build for the speed people actually live at.
- No feed: No algorithm deciding what you see besides space and time. No follower counts, no one performing.
- Not a prompt: Nothing our users leave with us goes through a model. Not for scoring, not for training.
- Small & specific: We'd rather make one thing that matters to someone than ten that scale to everyone.

## On AI

We, like the rest of the industry, use LLMs to help build our products, and they let a small team ship faster. What we're against are the uses that change how people behave for the worse: résumés filtered out by an algorithm before a person reads them, AI slop menus, clickbaity thumbnails followed by brainrot content, using language models to write messages/emails, filters that quietly reshape faces in photos. The ideas and the sentiment behind what we make are human, and we never process user content or data with an LLM.
